SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS OF YOUNG PEOPLE A Rights-Based Perspective, 2009

CharterThe Charter was the outcome of a Study Session organised by YouAct in cooperation with the Council of Europe - Directorate of Youth and Sport, and was held in Strasbourg, on 6th - 12th July 2008. During this study session, young people throughout the Council of Europe met, with the overall aim to agree on common objectives and develop effective advocacy strategies to promote young people's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

Joint European Youth Statement on SRHR in the Global South - Youth Advocates in Action Project, 2009

StatementThe Joint European Statement was an outcome of the YouAct Youth Advocates in Action project which saw training of youth advocates in 6 European Member countries. The training was an opportunity for the youth participants to gain a greater understanding of SRHR issues, the situation in the Global South and to lead on the design, development and implementation of an advocacy strategy. The Joint European Youth statement on SRHR in the Global South and Development Aid was signed by a number of organisations and young people from across Europe.

Statement

Hearing in the European Parliament on Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights of young people: a need for comprehensive sexuality Education in the South, 2008

StatementOn February 8th 2008 a public hearing was held at the European Parliament focusing on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Young People in the South. The hearing, chaired by MEP Kathalijne Maria Buitenweg and hosted by YouAct, EuroNGOs, World Population Foundation, and the Netherlands and the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), highlighted the urgent need to have effective programmes and policies on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for young people within the Development Policy on the European Union level.
The hearing focused on comprehensive sexuality education, through showing best practices, sharing first hand experiences from young people in the South and facilitating interactive discussions. Representatives from a capacity building workshop for young European advocates led by YouAct prior to the hearing, presented a statement encouraging policy and decision makers to Involve, Support and Commit to making comprehensive sexuality education part of development policy on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

The statement has now been signed by over 50 organisations from across the world and 100 individuals, including 31 Members of the European Parliament and a number of national political representatives, heads of NGOs and young people from across Europe.

Educational resourceIn partnership with MSI international and WPF, YouAct were involved in the development of 'Zoom in!' an education pack designed for use by teachers and youth facilitators to help young people understand developing world and sexual health issues through self expression.
